You Have to Have Auto Insurance

It is not an option not to have it. The obvious reason is the fact that it is illegal not to have auto insurance, if you get into an accident and don't have insurance you could pay a of $500 or even have your car seized. Even if it was legal not to have auto insurance it would would not be a smart decision to drive without it. Here is a real world example of the costs of fixing a car damaged in an accident:

Let's say you own a 2002 Chevy Cavalier and unfortunately you have just gotten into an accident. For the sake of argument we won't specify what the accident was, just the repair parts needed and the cost. After your accident it is found that you need new brakes, shocks and struts, bumper and hood. The following is a table of their costs, these are just estimates based on prices of different parts found on www.carparts.com:

Brakes $140.00
Shocks and Struts $181.96
Bumper $250.00
Hood $147.99
Labor $700.00

These parts are estimates and are on the low end. A lot of things can get damaged in an accident and sometimes you may need, for example, five or six different brake parts to fix your whole break system. That can drive your cost up to almost three our four times as much as what we have listed here. We also included an estimate of the cost of labor, which you will have to pay unless you are repairing the car yourself. A lot of times labor costs can equal the cost of repairing the car. Using our favorable example, added $700 for labor. The total cost came to: $1419.95. That is a lot of money to pay and if you don't have auto insurance you could possibly be adding a $500 dollar fine on top of all that. With auto insurance, however, you may only have a $500 deductible. Which means instead of paying the $1,919.95 you would only pay the deductible cost of $500. With the savings of $1,419.95 how could you afford not to have auto insurance.
